Every county in New York is beginning to address compliance with the federal Help Americans Vote Act (HAVA) (Read the Bill Summary for a quick overview. and the New York implementation by the Election Reform and Modernization Act of 2005. To see what steps New York is taking, click HERE for details or click the Help America Vote Act tab at the NYS Board of Elections page. Among the most prominent steps your county legislators will be taking is deciding which form of electronic voting system will be used.

The League supports a single statewide voting system using paper ballot/optical scan. We support legislation to ensure the integrity of the election process and all ballots. The League also supports increased state funding for poll worker and voter education. LWVNYS has an extensive collection of reports and commentary in its Advocacy pages on its website.
